Cosmetic Peeling
Peeling and rejuvenating the skin is one of the most familiar and well known methods for a fresh and healthy skin look.
Any person performs a light peeling action during his/her daily wash, using soap/a sponge/a loofah, however, this kind of action requires frequent repetition due to the fact that this is a process of surface cleaning and minimal rejuvenation of upper epidermis cells. Peeling for cosmetic purposes, using natural materials, has been performed thousands of years ago in ancient Egypt, with milk, wine and later on fruit extracts (lemon juice), taking advantage of the presence of lemon acid (alpha hydroxide acids) to achieve cosmetic goals. These natural peeling processes were later combined with mechanical peeling, intended for improving results. These peelings use fruit pits, hard sponges, crushed coral and various other powders.
Skin peeling can be performed using various methods, often requiring the combination of several treatment methods in order to achieve a better result. Currently, skin peeling is based on two primary ingredients:
- Chemical peeling
- Laser peeling
The purpose of both treatments is to remove the upper skin layers while performing controlled wounding of the middle layer (Dermis) of the skin. Combining both these actions brings about a healing and regrowth of the upper skin layers while raising the collagen and elastin percentages and achieves a bright, tight and glowing skin texture.
Historically, the depth of peeling was divided into three levels:(Peeling).
Superficial peeling, medium peeling and deep peeling.
In chemical peeling, the depth of peeling is determined by the type of material used (Jessner solution, alpha hydroxide acids, beta hydroxide acids, phenol, TCA) and the technical capability of the doctor performing the peeling. In Laser Peeling, it is possible to accurately determine the thickness of the layer we wish to remove. With the innovative devices available on the market nowadays, it is possible to perform a “Net Style Treatment” (Fractional Ablative, which alternately injures the skin [like a checkers board]). By injuring only parts of the skin, while others remain intact, goals are achieved effectively while the skin rejuvenates better.
Superficial peeling
What is that?
This refers to peeling of the skin layer up to 0.4 mm deep. This kind of peeling can sometimes be performed during lunch, and its efficiency is in significantly improving the upper skin layer, causing a decrease and sometimes wiping out of superficial pigmentation spots, occasionally improving minor wrinkles.
Who is this right for?
Superficial peeling could be suitable for women and men who feel like their skin is “tired” or needs freshening up or before a major event like a wedding, Bar Mitzvah, a work event, etc.
How long does it take it to show?
The results are visible following two to three days, and this is also the amount of time required following this treatment, for making the local redness disappear.
How long does this last?
As in many other cases, it is necessary to observe results according to genetic factors, previous unprotected sun exposure, exposure to chemical materials, etc.
Medium peeling
What is that?
This is a peeling of the skin up to 0.7 mm deep. This peeling leads to significant improvement in facial skin, skin texture, spot removal and improvement in wrinkling around various areas of the face.
Medium peeling could be performed in the neck area, chest, forearms and palms. It is possible to significantly improve texture, sun and age spots in these areas, as well.
Who is this for?
This is intended for both men and women, who feel like they wish to remove various damages caused in their skin throughout the years, and who wish to significantly improve the skin texture, quality and appearance.
How long does it take it to show?
Following a medium peeling, it is possible to asses the treatment results about four to six weeks following the treatment. Please note that slight redness and swelling, followed by a facial peeling during the week after treatment, may occur. The redness may last with decreasing intensity for about a month. There is a clear instruction to avoid sun exposure for a period of about three months following treatment.
How long does this last for?
As in many other cases, it is necessary to observe results according to genetic factors, previous unprotected sun exposure, exposure to chemical materials, etc. Considering these factors, the Medium Peeling should last between three to five years.
Deep peeling
What is that?
A deep peeling intended for penetrating the middle of the Dermis, the purpose of which is to significantly improve deep wrinkles.Acne scars Deep peeling also significantly improves texture and other deep skin flaws, wrinkles around the mouth and eyes, chicken pox scars, etc. It even creates a certain stretching effect.
How long does it take to show?
The process results is visible a month after treatment and improves afterwards. The results can be assessed three months later. The deep chemical peel is usually performed in an Operations Room with the presence of a specialist, who applies anesthesia for half an hour. The patient wakes up wearing a healing biological mask for several days. Upon removal of the mask, redness and swelling will be visible for about six weeks. You must avoid sun exposure and cosmetic activity for months after treatment.
Chemical skin peeling is a one time treatment.
Deep laser peeling is usually performed in a clinic, following local anesthesia. For several days following treatment, there is redness and skin peeling. This can last for several weeks. You must avoid sun exposure and cosmetic activity for months after treatment.
Deep laser skin peeling can be performed in one treatment or in two to three treatments, in order to achieve the desired results.
