Diagnosing Moles and Skin Lesions

During the past few years, there has been a drastic increase in the appearance of cancerous skin growths, both of melanoma and other types of skin cancer.

Reasons for following up
This drastic increase is attributed to uncontrolled sun exposure, due to misunderstanding of the damages caused, in previous decades, in uncontrolled exposure in tanning beds and other causes.

Method and frequency of following up
Following up on skin lesions should be a combined follow up, during which the patient self checks once a month and a treating dermatologist conducts check ups two to three times a year.

The purpose of following up
Spotting lesions that have changed somehow (in size, color, boundaries, behavior) between check ups.

Who is the checkup for?

  • Babies
  • Adolescents
  • Adults
  • The elderly

Please note that in some cases the follow up may be intensive and include the removal of suspected lesions in order to check the removed tissue and rule out the possibility of cancerous changes. For more information about mole removal, press here.

It is most important to conduct check ups, and therefore we have a custom of sending a reminder to schedule a check up, via email or text message, to the patients who sign up for it.
